As Head of Capacity Development, Will works to strengthen the Centre’s approach to capacity development and maximize our long-term impact on biodiversity conservation policy and practice. This includes leading our capacity development strategy, developing, testing and implementing new and innovative capacity development approaches, and ensuring that we understand our impact through appropriate measures of capacity development. As part of this, Will coordinates UNEP-WCMC’s efforts to support UNEP’s strategic presence in Brazil, China and Southern Africa.
Will holds a degree in Zoology and a PhD in Behavioural Ecology, both from Manchester University. Previously, Will worked in academia, teaching project planning and evaluation for biodiversity conservation while a Lecturer in Environment and Development at Bradford University and spent five years in Africa as a project coordinator, trainer and consultant based at the College of African Wildlife Management in Tanzania. More recently, Will worked in New York as the Director of Training and Capacity Building for the Wildlife Conservation Society and then Programs Director for PCI Media Impact using media to communicate ideas about conservation to various target audiences.
