SSC Network Coordination Officer | IUCN Species Survival Commission Chair's Office

Rachel’s role within the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Species Survival Commission (SSC) is to provide overall coordination of, and strategic targeted support to, the SSC network, which includes the delivery of advice and guidance to Specialist Groups with work plan development, presentation of technical information to influence policy formulation, networking, action planning, fundraising, administration of funds and governance issues. This role also provides assistance with the drafting and reviewing of intervention letters, technical documents (e.g., guidelines) and statements (policy, position), and management of the Amazing Species website.

Previous experience & expertise

A Zoology graduate with a Masters in Ecology and Environmental Management, with research experience on the spatial distribution of badgers, and kangaroo management options in the Murray-Daring Basin, Australia. Rachel has 10 years of experience in international biodiversity conservation, which includes five years of employment in a dual role working with the international team at RSPB and BirdLife prior to joining the SSC. She also has expertise in researching and writing technical and scientific press releases and feature articles for targeted and specialized media on behalf of companies in the agricultural and scientific sector.
