As Associate Programme Officer in the Climate Change and Biodiversity programme, Carina supports the implementation of a range of projects related to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Her work especially focuses on the role of nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based adaptation in mitigating and adapting to climate change, conserving biodiversity, and delivering further co-benefits to people.
Carina holds a MSc in Ecosystem-based Water Management and a BSc in Conservation and Ecology and is interested in understanding the link between climate change and ecosystem functions and services. Before joining UNEP-WCMC, she worked as a consultant in the field of integrated water management. By using an ecosystem-wide approach, she provided advice on enhancing the ecological quality of ecosystems and reducing the risks of drought and flooding. Carina also performed applied research on the relationship between water quality and greenhouse gas emissions in freshwater systems.
