Benjamin Lucas

Associate Programme Officer | Conserving Land and Seascapes

Ben’s work primarily involves providing organisational, technical, and administrative support for two thematic areas: projects related to sustainable blue economy and ocean accounting; and maintenance of the World Database on Protected Areas along with projects associated with the Protected Planet Initiative.

Previous experience & expertise

Prior to this position, Ben completed an MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management at the University of Oxford, having previously graduated from the University of East Anglia with a BSc in Environmental Sciences. Ben has also worked with several environmental organisations, including the Sydney Institute of Marine Science surveying eco-engineered seawalls, and the Environment Agency performing environmental monitoring in East Anglia. His research interests lie primarily in spatial conservation planning, ecological modelling, and ecosystem restoration, but he also has an interest in policy development and the socio-cultural dimensions of conservation practice.
