Arnout van Soesbergen

Programme Officer | Science

Arnout is a technical specialist in the Science Programme, whose main role is to support and develop projects throughout the Centre that deal with modelling and mapping ecosystem services and biodiversity.

Previous experience & expertise

Arnout has previously worked at the Institute for Environmental Studies in Amsterdam where he worked on a number of Payments for Ecosystem Services projects. During his PhD he worked on modelling water resources and developing policy support systems in the Andes. Arnout has an MSc in Eco-hydrology and Environment and Resource Management, both from the VU University Amsterdam. He obtained his PhD at Kings College London studying the impacts of climate change on freshwater resources of global dams.

MacArthur Commodities | Science Lead

In collaboration with the Centre’s Ecosystem Assessment Programme, Arnout leads the development and implementation of a spatial framework to assess trade-offs between agricultural commodities development and biodiversity and ecosystem functions under scenarios of change in regions within Africa, Southeast Asia and South America.
