Andy Arnell

Programme Officer | Science

Andy works on various projects throughout the Centre with a focus on spatial analysis, and scientific and technical support. 

Previous experience & expertise

Andy previously worked as a Geographic Information Systems and Data Officer for the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust. His work focused on mapping and modelling species distributions and assessing connectivity for species status assessments. Further responsibilities included coordinating the National Amphibian and Reptile Recording Scheme and supervising interns. He has a Masters in Primate Conservation from Oxford Brookes University and a Zoology degree from Cardiff University.

MacArthur Commodities |

Andy is carrying out some of the core spatial analyses for this ongoing project. Work is focused on modelling the trade-off between commodities, biodiversity and ecosystem services for current and future scenarios within regions of Africa, Asia and South America.

Protected Areas Resilient to Climate Change West Africa |

Andy worked as a consultant to model the connectivity of the protected area network in West Africa, with a particular focus on providing context to transboundary protected areas and corridors.

Incorporating and utilizing spatial data and mapping for National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans |

Andy was responsible for providing expertise in spatial data use and available resources and tools, producing a guidance document to aid government practitioners in creating and revising National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans.
